Honest art is the hardest art there is. It isn't art that is traced, or art that is shapes and lines. It's art that pours from the artist's soul, and heart. Art that has a set message, and a set ideal. The artist isn't asking for the viewer to take those shapes and lines or tracings and see what they want. They aren't asking that. They are drawing a red apple, and saying "This is my red apple. Enjoy my red apple," or "This is a girl dancing on a cloud. Can you feel her freedom?"
It's the honest art that gets left behind. Some of us look at things and see what we want. We do it in real life; at school, at work, at home. We see things laid out before us, and we make it something else. An honest artist isn't looking for that.
Honest art is the hardest, because sometimes, it can take forever for the right thing to come to you. You can spend your whole life making sure that everyone knows why that silly apple is red, or why that girl is dancing on a cloud, and not water.
Let your mind free, and your hand wander. Those days where you drew purple rabbits, just because you could? Maybe you drew yellow birds. I did. Pretty yellow birds.
I call it honest, because it's being honest to yourself. Show you in a little of everything you do.
My yellow birds? They were a seven year olds way of showing people freedom. Everyone else saw what they wanted to. Yellow birds.
